Light Show Study

Oil on Cradled Masonite

OK...for all of you Painting a Day artists, this is one of a series I have been working on for the past year. Inspired by Carol Marine, I found the exercise a great way to explore color and compositional ideas before committing to a larger canvas. I also discovered the painting surface makes a big difference in the final look. The cradled masonite is the surface here with a liberal coating of gesso. The paint slides rather than grip the surface, so I had to learn to go with it.
