This is a painting I had started and put away for a couple of weeks as it was not working as well as I wanted. When I decided to go back into it, I was a little more liberal with my brush strokes and saw a need for contrast. Sometimes it helps to get away from a larger work and come back to it with fresh eyes.

This was a painting I completed prior to my painting class at the StutzArtCenter in Indianapolis. I wanted to show how a still life subject would appear with a dark value for the background. The painting was completed in 1.5 hours starting with color notes painted in and observing the changes as each subject was added. The final work in the last 15 minutes was thicker paint with some color adjustment and liberal brush work. The class responded with finished paintings within the 3 hour period.

This is a new work completed this week for an upcoming show in March. I will be a part of the Stutz Artists Association Members Exhibition in the new StutzARTspace Gallery. It is always a challenge working on a square format. All of the works in the exhibit will be the same 16"x16" size.
