House at IMA

This was the final painting session from my class. We painted from the shade, looking toward one of the Lilly houses on the grounds of the IMA. The challenge was to capture the light of late evening and keep the house simple, looking for light/dark and warm/cool contrasts. I took the liberty to change the sky to a warmer yellow rather than the blue, but kept the same value. The class did a great job considering this was only their 5th painting.

Entry at the IMA

This was a 2 hour painting a day before the class. After working on this for an hour, I decided this would be too hard for the beginning class as it is a difficult architectural shape to draw and paint. So, tomorrow night we will keep it a little more simple.

Sculpture at the Art Center

This was a painting completed with my class. We painted for 2.5 hrs and tried to capture the late light on the trees and sculpture. The background was simplified, trying to create atmospheric perspective.

New Gallery/Studio

Many of you are not aware that I have moved my studio at the Stutz to a bigger space in the B Building. The new studio is B300 and it will give me about 600 sq ft of gallery space and a well lit studio. It took several weeks to prepare and move and I am really enjoying the new space. For the First Friday in October the artists on the B Floor are having openings in their studios. More to follow.

Fountain at Butler

Back from Germany and enjoying some plein air painting with my class at the Stutz. I spent 2 weeks moving my studio to a new well lit space including more room for a gallery. I will post pics later.
