This is the latest assignment from the DSFDF . The blog was set up by Karin Jurick with a distinct purpose for each photograph posted. The challenge this time around was to "get the human figure right." Good drawing is a must, but what I learned from Kim English in a recent workshop was to block in the shape of the figure early in the painting and continue to work the figure and the background at the same time. I thought the painting needed something in the foreground, so...I added Dooley from a photo when he was a puppy.

I love your soft colors and the little puppy is a really nice addition...great brushwork and drawing of the figure.
Nice light and shadows in this, and the puppy was an excellent touch!
nice job!
Your palette so nice and adds a certain calm to your painting. I really like it.
I am jealous you got to attend a workshop with kim english! :) your work is really amazing. good job on the challenge.
Jerry, When the parts of a piece are well drawn and constructed and the colors are fresh and innovative and the added touch of contented companionship is mixed in, the formula WORKS. Beautifully emotional results. This piece to totally eye-catching. Love it.
Jerry, when all components are drawn well; colors complementary, contrasting, bright and clean, and companionable emotion is added, the finished piece WORKS! How beautiful. Great rendition!
Like the addition of the puppy! Good job.
Thanks Mark, Carol,Claire, Tracie, bdydttdncr, and Anne for your nice comments.

Very well incorporated, love your take on the challenge!
Hello Jerry- Your interpretation of Karin's provided photo is wonderful, adding little Dooley brings so much more to the painting. I also really like the little touches of blue that you've included throughout the painting, like on the tip of his shoes, Dooley's collar, the mustache, etc. Very well done!
This looks just like my dog Casey!
Kathleen....Dooley is a Labradoodle. He will be 5 in October and came here from an Australian breeder.
What is your dog?
Dooley is the perfect addition to an already great interpretation to Karin's challenge. Your colors are always so soft, yet vibrant at the same time...great entry!
I love the added dog and he looks os sweet too . Great entry.
