October Glory

SOLD
Oil
18"x24"

This is the second painting in this series. The painting starts with a kind of mosaic, linear drawing and quickly moves to color relationships and contrasts. I wanted a feeling of walking into the painting similar to walking into the woods and the fallen leaves still full of the Fall colors.

Sea Mist

Oil
12"x16"

The last day of the Randall Sexton Workshop...and it rained all day. So, into the studio to work from photographs and final critiques. I liked the photo of the Sea Mist and the challenges of a low contrast photograph. Tried to harmonize the color palette and punch up the focal area and color of the boat.

Hotel Del Rio

Oil
12"x16"

This work is actually from the 2nd day of the Randall Sexton Workshop. Unfortunately it was overcast, so I missed that great California light. There was a median in the middle of the street, so I set up there, parked my rental car under the sign and began. I loved the old 50s sign. The hotel has been closed for a while. What history it must have had. The bar was across the street and the locals were drinking at 9am when we arrived.

Lodi Winery

SOLD
Oil
12"x16"

I had the pleasure of studying with Randall Sexton in California. I was there a day early and painted the only sunny day at a winery in Lodi. I'll post the workshop paintings later. In this work I was trying to capture the intense light on the side of the buildings. The wine tasting prior to the painting, for sure, kept things loose. Quick note: those of you being selective in your workshop lists. Randy's workshop is a must. Great teacher, great critiques, great communicator.
